Report issued on environment change of Tibetan plateau

BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Global researchers publicized Wednesday a report on the Tibetan plateau, expounding environment change the region has experienced for the past two millennia.

The scientific evaluation on environment change of the Tibetan plateau was organized by the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

The report displayed climate change, water body, ecosystem and land surface, impact of human activities and potential risks the plateau faces, through 26 indicators relating to temperatures, rainfall, glaciers, snow cover and lakes.

It also predicted environment change on the plateau in the next century and put forward a series of measures to cope with such issues.

The CAS institute said more than 70 specialists from home and abroad started working on the report from 2012.

The CAS institute describes the Tibetan plateau in its report as the areas mainly in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, with an average altitude of over 4,500 meters.
