Nuclear power 'safe' in China

Several senior Chinese nuclear energy experts who are members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) said that China's existing technology can protect the safety of nuclear power, Xinhua News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Zhang Guobao, former director of the China National Energy Bureau, said that nuclear power accounts currently a very small proportion of China's energy structure but nuclear energy will remain an important part of China's future energy with existing safety technology.

Liu Wei, deputy general-manger of China Nuclear Power Engineering Co Ltd, said the safety of China's nuclear power plants both under operation and construction is guaranteed and, after years of work, China's nuclear industry has formed an entire industrial chain service capability with a good foundation and advantages of nuclear energy export.
