On March 20 of 2014, Prof. Luc Beaufort form European Center for Research and Education in Environmental Geosciences (CEREGE), and Prof. Tie-Gang Li from Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IO-CAS), visited Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences(YIC-CAS).

Prof. Luc Beaufort delivered the lecture entitled “Calcification of coccolithophore and the oceanic carbonate chemistry”, which introduced the recent advances on coccolith ecology by his research group. Prof. Luc Beaufort mentioned that changes of CO2 and pH in ocean can enormously affect plates and weight of Coccolithophorides. Prof. Tie-Gang Li gave the lecture entitled “Marine sediment and marine biological geochemistry”. He introduced condition of global ocean, composition of marine sediment, and role of bio-organic matters in carbon cycle of ocean.

Both lectures provided great reference on biogeochemistry researches of marine sediment in coastal zone. Researchers and students from YIC-CAS discussed some research focuses with experts, which is a good start of further cooperation in the future.
