From October 14 to 16, Prof. Dr. Rui Wang from Lakehead University, Canada, visited Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (YICCAS).
During his visit, Prof. Rui Wang delivered an excellent lecture entitled “Gasotransmitters and Hydrogen Sulfide: Discovery and Implications in Biomedical Research”. In this lecture, his group’s research work and achievements were introduced about the physiological role of hydrogen sulfide molecule and its pathological effects on the environment, human health and other fields, as well as the potential medicinal values of hydrogen sulfide gas and its significant application prospects were proposed, with profound theories explained in simple language.
Prof. Lingxin Chen, the Principle Investigator of “Environmental Microanalysis and Monitoring Laboratory” (EMM Lab), hosting the lecture, pointed out that Lakehead University as one of the esteemed comprehensive university of Canada, has a very high international prestige in the biological resources exploration and utilization, and can provide us many enlightens and references. Related staffs and postgraduates from our institute and other universities actively attended and discussed the lecture. After the lecture, Prof. Wang visited EMM Lab and other laboratories. Moreover, related intentions on achievement industrialization and further cooperation have been reached between our institute and Lakehead University.
Prof. Rui Wang is the Vice President of Research, Economic Development & Innovation of Lakehead University. His research interest focuses on the regulation of cardiovascular health. He is one of the international leaders in the study of the metabolism and physiological functions of gasotransmitters (NO, CO and H2S). His researches have been strongly favorably supported by CIHR, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSF), and other national and international funding agencies.
