May 9-28 2012, John Morrison, BHP Professor of Environmental Science at the University of Wollongong paid a visit to YIC-CAS for research communication.
Prof. Morrison has extensive experience in environmental issues in the Pacific Islands.He has over 200 publications including 100 papers in refereed journals, over 40 book chapters and over 20 major technical reports on estuary biogeochemistry, soil genesis and management, marine pollution, water quality, waste management. He is also the major editor of 10 technical monographs.
Since the year 2008, good research cooperation has been established between Prof. Morison and our institute. In 2012, Prof. Morrison and Prof. Liu Dongyan successfully applied for the CAS program of “Specially-appointed Professor Plan for foreign experts”
During this visit, Prof. Morrison gave series of classes on the topic of marine chemistry and ecology, SCI paper writing and modifying, application for study in Australia, etc. Prof. Morrison also gave careful revision and guidance on the draft publications of our research staff and students.
On May 23, Prof. Morrison gave an open presentation with the topic of “Anthropogenic biogeochemical impacts on coral reef systems in the South Pacific Islands” and had discussions with researchers of YIC-CAS in related aspects.
