Prof. Luca Zaggia and Dr. Braga Federica from the Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council, Italy (CNR-ISMAR) paid a visit to Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (YIC) to seek academic exchange on Nov. 19.

Prof. Luca Zaggia gave an overview of CNR-ISMAR and Dr. Braga Federica introduced the role of remote sensing technology in assessing and monitoring water quality along coastal zones. Both of them showed appreciation on the achievements made by YIC after touring various laboratories here.

The two sides exchanged views on their joint 3-year project “An integrated monitoring and management approach of hydrologic processes in coastal ecosystems for the understanding of the relation between continental and marine waters in the Yantai, China, and in the Venice (North Adriatic Sea, Italy).

In addition, both sides reached a consensus on further cooperation in the future.

The Institute of Marine Sciences, founded in 1968, pertains to the National Committee on Environmental Sciences (Italy), though its activity is multidisciplinary. Since its very inception the purposes are multiple from basic research in oceanography and geology to applied research.
