Introduction

The Key Laboratory of Coastal Zone Environmental Processes and Ecological Remediation (KLCEPER), formerly named the Key Laboratory of Coastal Zone Environmental Processes, was founded in December 31, 2010. Affiliated to Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (YIC, CAS), the laboratory focuses on the comprehensive studies of coastal zone environmental processes and ecological remediation.

Currently the laboratory has its faculty of more than 77 in total, with a highly interdisciplinary research background, majoring in marine chemistry, environmental science and environmental engineering, etc., including 17 professors and 23 associate professors. Among them, there are 3 chief scientists of the  “973” Project, the “863” Project and the National Science-technology Support Plan Project, 2 recipient of “1000 Youth Plan” of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, 12 recipients of “100-Talent Program” of CAS, 1 recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Funds of NSFC, 3 recipients of the Shandong Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund, 1 recipient of “Taishan Scholar” of Shandong Province. At present, there are 68 admitted master students, 53 PhD students and 2 post-doctoral fellows.

The lab has equipment of more than 4500m2, including 46 large and medium-sized instruments of more than 70 million RMB Yuan. It has several platforms, including the CAS Muping Integrated Experimental Station of Coastal Environment, the CAS Yellow River Delta Ecological Experimental Station of Coastal Wetland, and the Research Center for Coastal Environmental Engineering and Technologies of Shandong Province.

So far, the lab has made many significant achievements in  the research on the coastal zone environmental processes and ecological remediation by undertaking hundreds of research projects at national and local levels with funds of 0.13  billion RMB Yuan, including the “863” Project, the “973” Project and the National Science-technology Support Plan Project, etc., and has published more than 600 articles among which over 400 are SCI articles. It has filed 53 patent applications, among which 22 have been authorized. Furthermore, wide and deep contacts with research institutes  and distinguished scholars from Germany, France, Australia and other countries have been built.
